Every figure on this page is computed from the inputs you enter, by the method stated below it. The statutory figures the page names are read from GOV.UK and sourced: 5.6 weeks' paid holiday a year for almost all workers, statutory entitlement limited to 28 days, bank holidays allowed to count inside it, and notice of at least twice the leave requested plus one day. Everything else is yours.
The figures above start from a worked example (28). Change any input and the answer updates as you type.

This states an annual leave policy from the figures a small employer has to decide. Days in the working week times the weeks of leave the policy gives is the days' paid leave a year, with the UK statutory 5.6 weeks as the floor and 28 days as the statutory cap; bank holidays counted inside the entitlement come off the days to book, which an employer can choose; the carry-over is the policy's own figure; and the notice for a typical request follows the general rule of twice the leave plus one day. Every statutory figure is sourced; every policy figure is yours. Free, on the page, no account; the paid plan prints it under your name.
The entitlement, with the floor and the cap named
Almost all workers are legally entitled to 5.6 weeks' paid holiday a year and statutory paid holiday entitlement is limited to 28 days (GOV.UK). Five days a week on 5.6 weeks is 28; a policy can give more weeks, and the template takes the weeks the policy gives and shows the days it comes to.
Bank holidays counted inside, or not, and carry-over
An employer can choose to include bank holidays as part of a worker's statutory annual leave (GOV.UK), so the policy has to say whether it does; the template takes the number counted and shows the days left to book after them. Carry-over is the policy's own decision, and the template states the figure so nobody argues in April.
The notice rule, worked for a typical request
The general notice period for taking leave is at least twice as long as the amount of leave a worker wants to take, plus one day, unless the contract says otherwise (GOV.UK): three days' notice for one day, 21 for ten. The template works the rule for the request length you enter so the policy states a number rather than a principle.
Annual leave policy template: common questions
Is this a free annual leave policy template?
Yes. Enter the days in the working week, the weeks of leave the policy gives, the bank holidays counted inside it, the carry-over allowed and a typical request length, and it states the entitlement, the bookable days, the carry-over and the notice on the page with no account. Print it as it stands. WallChartBook Pro adds your business name and keeps the policy against the leave year.
What is the minimum annual leave in the UK?
5.6 weeks' paid holiday a year for almost all people classed as workers, limited to 28 days, with part-time workers entitled to the same 5.6 weeks at their own days a week (GOV.UK). A contract can give more; the template takes whatever the policy gives on top of the floor.
Can bank holidays count toward the 28 days?
Yes: an employer can choose to include bank holidays as part of a worker's statutory annual leave (GOV.UK). The policy has to say so. The template takes the number of bank holidays counted and shows the days left to book after them.
